This is an excellent opportunity to introduce strong product management, in a ‘start-up’ like environment, with a very strong social purpose.

Digital Engagement Product Manager (32-40 hours p/w)
Location: The Hague

510 is the data initiative of the Netherlands Red Cross. Our vision is that smart use of data will help towards faster, higher quality and more (cost) effective humanitarian aid at a global level. The 510 initiative was established early 2016 and has grown since into a team of 90 core and project staff, students and volunteer data experts with diverse backgrounds. The team is developing data and digital product solutions for humanitarian aid.

Purpose of the position

510 is ‘scaling up’ digital humanitarian products in order to maximise their humanitarian impact. To achieve this we need to enhance our product management capabilities, and as a result, we are looking for an Digital Engagement Product Manager who can help us achieve this aim for a number of existing products.

The majority of the role will be spent defining, developing and scaling up the Digital Engagement Hub (DEH), which is a major Community engagement product initiative of the IFRC. The hub is a series of integrated products which connect National Societies with communities, digitally.

The remaining time will be spent developing the vision and roadmap for two exciting 510 products focussed on Community Engagement. (1) the Helpful Information Application (HIA), which is a 510 product aimed at using information as aid and (2) our Social Media Listening (SML) platform, which is a service utilising social media data to empower National Societies to make more informed decisions to support people affected.

Community Engagement and Accountability (CEA) is an important – and rapidly growing – discipline within the humanitarian sector which places communities at the heart of decision making, and aims to provide dignity to communities affected and accountability for humanitarian organisations. Typically CEA is done via human-to-human interaction. At 510, we believe this can be complemented and amplified using digital technology.

Your role would be to create and own the product vision and roadmap, to understand the market and ensure the product is well positioned in the market, to understand how the products fits into the users workflows, and to work closely with the software development, product design, marketing and account management teams to drive growth. Our humanitarian partners will mainly be Red Cross/Red Crescent national societies around the globe.

The Digital Lead in 510 will line manage this role. However, the role will also have a functional link to the IFRC’s Digital Transformation director for accountability on the Digital Engagement Hub.
