The European Cultural Foundation works for an open, inclusive and better Europe. It was created 65 years ago for the promotion of European unity by encouraging cultural and educational activities of common interest. In 2019 the foundation’s theme is “Democracy Needs Imagination”. Because Culture can provide resistance against divisive forces. Culture can tell the story of Europe. Culture can imagine a better future.


  • Your role is to develop, implement and oversee an overall communications strategy, budget and plan with clear goals.
  • You lead a small team to achieve this and as a member of the management team of the foundation you ensure this strategy is carried across the organisation and the work of the foundation is widely known and shared, with new and established audiences. 
  • You develop contemporary digital and analogue communications tools and build a solid and effective press and media profile for the foundation across Europe.
  • You ensure that messaging is consistent and clear at all levels and supported by all members of staff.
  • You have a wide network in European media, and represent the foundation externally as a spokesperson.

Functie-eisen en profiel

  • Have demonstrable experience in leading a team to achieve results.
  • Have worked for 5+ years in a European media or communications environment and have key contacts at your fingertips.
  • Have excellent written and spoken communications skills and a sound knowledge of marketing principles.
  • Have excellent understanding of digital media.
  • Know the issues at stake in European societies and politics and are capable of engaging in discourse about the role of culture as a driver of societal change.
  • Have a proven track record in/commitment to working in and promoting a diverse context and stakeholders.
  • Are fluent in English; other languages are a definite asset.

Ons aanbod

  • A contract for 5 days (37.5 hours) a week, for 1 year with a view to extending;
  • You must have a valid work permit for the Netherlands (according to Dutch Labour Law)
