Your role at Simavi
Responsible for influencing the Dutch and international policy on the 5 Expertise Area’s of Simavi with a focus on Women Centered, Rights Based Approach and Sustainable Change. The Public Affairs Officer is coached by the Director of Partnership Development.

Your result areas
1. Influencing Dutch and international policy on Simavi Expertise Area’s
a) Contributes to the development, updates and implements the lobby and advocacy strategy and policy with a focus on Gender and Social Inclusion.
b) Coordinates and aligns Lobby & Advocacy (L&A) activities throughout the organisation, in line with the L&A strategy.
c) Builds, maintains and uses external networks of governmental/ministry officers, members of parliaments, colleague NGO’s, relevant businesses, knowledge institutes, et cetera for the purpose of policy influencing, both in The Netherlands and abroad.
d) Follows policy developments and makes analysis (of issues, processes and stakeholder analysis) for the purpose of effective policy influencing.
e) Aligns – together with communication colleagues – the Simavi communication with L&A strategy goals.
f) Builds the capacity of Simavi’s local partners in the development and implementation of their L&A strategy.
g) Develops annual plans an monitors results and costs.
h) Sets up indicators, in close cooperation with Monitoring, Evaluation & Learning colleagues, in order to properly monitor the results of L&A work.
i) Represents Simavi’s work and approach by giving presentations and participating in relevant (digital) platforms, social media and conferences.

2. Signalling opportunities and threats for the organisation
a) Represents Simavi in relevant networks to identify opportunities and threats for the organisation.
b) Makes analysis of identified opportunities and threats (related to new policies and market developments) and advises colleagues how to respond on these.
c) Link L&A to fundraising opportunities and relay those to the Director Partnership Development.
d) Contributes to programme development for institutional fundraising in the area of policy influencing.

  • Academic level of education;
  • A minimum of 3 years of working experience in a similar position;
  • Special interest in political processes and development issues;
  • Knowledgeable in the field of Women Centred, Rights Based Approach and Sustainable Change;
  • Relevant and active network in The Netherlands and abroad;
  • Excellent verbal, reading and writing skills in English and Dutch;
  • Excellent lobbyist;
  • Representative;
  • Able and willing to travel.

  • We offer a contract for 12 months for 36 hours per week with possible extension.
  • The salary we offer depends on the years of working experience you bring along and will be within the salary range of € 3,045 and € 4,360 gross per month on a fulltime basis of 36 hours per week.
  • Furthermore, part of our terms of employment are: 22.5 vacation days per year, 8% holiday allowance, mobile phone allowance, commuting allowance (as of >10 kilometres), a pension insurance and a disability insurance.

Our office is located at Naritaweg 135, which is a 2 minutes’ walk from train station Amsterdam Sloterdijk.
